Beginner's Guide & Basics

Master the fundamentals of Catch Bugs and start your journey to becoming a bug-catching master.

Getting Started

Welcome to Catch Bugs, a Roblox bug-collecting tycoon where you catch 200+ rare, exotic, and mutated bugs across diverse biomes. The game launched on February 2, 2026, and has already attracted over 16 million visits with a stellar 97% rating.

When you first enter the game, you'll spawn in the Grasslands with nothing but a Flimsy Net. Your goal is to catch bugs, earn coins, upgrade your equipment, and progress through increasingly challenging biomes.

Pro Tip:

Sell Common and Uncommon bugs immediately, but ALWAYS keep Rare, Legendary, Zenith, and Supreme bugs for your Vivarium. The passive income from high-rarity bugs is what makes late-game progress possible.

Core Gameplay Loop

The Catch Bugs experience revolves around a continuous cycle:

  1. Catch bugs using your net by clicking on insects in the world
  2. Earn coins by selling catches to NPC vendors or via the Sell Anywhere gamepass
  3. Upgrade your net to catch heavier and rarer bugs
  4. Unlock new biomes by paying entry fees
  5. Place bugs in Vivarium for passive offline income

Controls

  • W, A, S, D - Movement
  • Left Click - Swing net to catch bugs
  • E - Interact with NPCs / Open inventory
  • Tab - Toggle Vivarium panel

Net Progression

Your net is your most important tool. Better nets have higher Strength (ability to catch heavy bugs), Luck (improved rare spawn rates), and Speed (faster catch minigame).

Net Strength Gate:

Certain biomes require minimum net strength. Moon Hollow requires Strength 15, so you'll need at least a Royal Net ($76,000) to access it efficiently.

Biomes Overview

The game features 12 distinct biomes, each with unique bugs and difficulty levels:

  • Grasslands - Starting zone, free entry
  • Forest - Natural habitat, moderate difficulty
  • River - Aquatic zone, introduces water bugs ($500 entry)
  • Jungle - Dense canopy, better rewards ($5,000 entry)
  • Caves - Low light, bioluminescent bugs ($25,000 entry)
  • Desert - Open terrain, Sand Worm spawns here ($100,000 entry)
  • Crawlwood - Mysterious forest with hidden secrets ($15,000 entry)
  • Moon Hollow - Magical zone, bugs glow at night ($50,000 entry)
  • Deeproot Caves - Ancient depths, rare content ($200,000 entry)
  • Dune Burrow - Desert caves, high-level farming ($500,000 entry)
  • Jewel Jungle - Gem-encrusted mystical jungle ($2,000,000 entry)
  • Secret Tomb - Ancient ruins, ultimate challenge ($10,000,000 entry)

The Vivarium System

Your Vivarium is a passive income generator. Place high-value bugs inside and they will generate coins over time, even when you're offline.

Key Vivarium tips:

  • Never put Common or Uncommon bugs in your Vivarium - they waste slots for minimal income
  • Prioritize Rare and above for your Vivarium
  • Mutations multiply Vivarium yield - an Evil Cave Mother generates significantly more than a regular one
  • Upgrade Vivarium slots as you progress to house more valuable bugs

Mutation System

When you catch a bug, there's a base 1 in 90 chance it will mutate. Mutations can dramatically increase a bug's value:

Mutation Multiplier Weather Event
Barren1.3xSandstorm
Electrified1.5xThunderstorm
Frozen1.8xBlizzard
Radioactive2.0xAcid Rain
Infernal2.2xHeatwave
Radiant2.5xNone
Chromatic3.0xNone
Evil3.25xNone
Weather Strategy:

Weather events occur every 45 minutes and last 5 minutes. During weather, the mutation chance becomes 1 in 3 for that specific weather type. Plan your farming sessions around weather events for maximum gains.

Recommended Early Game Strategy

  1. Sell everything until you can afford a Steel Net ($600)
  2. Focus on catching bugs in Grasslands and Forest
  3. Keep all Rare+ bugs for Vivarium
  4. Save up for Nature Net ($16,000) to enter Crawlwood
  5. Work toward Royal Net ($76,000) for Moon Hollow access
  6. Gradually expand to Caves and Desert as you accumulate wealth
